It’s Editing Time Again!
I just got the first round of edits for my Christmas Quickie, Santa’s Sleeping Beauty!
I’m actually rather excited about starting them. I don’t really mind editing and fortunately I haven’t yet run into any situations where I am totally stuck or totally disagree with my editor.
The thing about editing though is that it highlights (usually in bright yellow and/or red) all the silly, stupid mistakes I’ve made in a manuscript. Especially things I’ve totally overlooked, or even worse, hadn’t even bothered to contemplate. Things like, “When exactly did her panties come off?” or “Are you sure you want to use throbbing again?”
These things get fixed thanks to the levelheadedness and sharp eye of my editor so I don’t come off as a total idiot, but I can’t help but feel a little embarrassed every time I open the document and see all of my oversights, the misused words, the repetitions.
At least I didn’t use delicious around 500,000 times in this manuscript. I successfully took it down a notch and only managed to slip it in once every 500 words or so.
Good luck with edits. I think we all make those mistakes that we later see and think how did I do that? We are too close to our work and after a while you don’t spot the blunders anymore.
Thanks Savannah! I agree with you completely and all I have to say is thank god for good editors!
