Sunday Snippet

March 23, 2014

Here is a little taste from KNIGHTLY DESIRE, my fantasy romance with Ellora’s Cave.

His horse stirred again and Brant’s gaze swept over the valley. A strong wind from the south stirred the putrid leaves. It was silent down there, an unnatural hush blanketing the wilds, and it seemed as though the whole world was holding its breath. Waiting. A deep knot of unease sat in his chest, but he pushed it aside and focused on his mission. He was a soldier, not some old fishwife with a head full of fairytales. His quarry waited below. His duty was to quash any and all threats to the kingdom. There was nothing else.

He put on his helmet and unsheathed his sword. Would today be the end? He was surprised by his own morbid thought and even more shocked by the piecing spike of regret that accompanied it. He’d pledged his life to the kingdom, to serving and defending his nation. There was never a doubt in his mind that when his end came, it would come in the line of duty. He had nothing to regret.
