“We could kiss each other.”

A spark of interest, of heat, ignited her blood, but she quickly squashed it. He was messing with her as usual. He almost had her that time though. If he knew how close she had come to falling for it, he’d never let her live it down. She snorted out a laugh and shook her head. “I don’t want your cooties.”

“Would it be so terrible?” he asked, curling his fingers into hers. He ran his thumbs over her knuckles and a strange feeling gathered in her chest. Not a bad feeling, just foreign, and kind of exciting. “I mean, it couldn’t be worse than that time you puked on me, right?”

She groaned, remembering the night she wished to her bones she could forget. That disaster had been entirely his fault. She told him she didn’t do well with sweet shots. “I don’t know, that was pretty awesome, and I seem to recall you laughing the whole time.”

“Yeah,” he said, laughing even now. “It was funny.” He shifted her in his arms so they faced one another. “Come on, Kat. One kiss.” He flashed her a lighthearted grin. “I’ll keep your soul safe.” He placed his hand over his heart. “I promise.”
