What’s The Deal With Cowboys?

I’ve been reading a lot of category romance recently and it seems that every other hero is a cowboy. I’m not quite getting why that is the case. What sets them apart from other men and makes them such an ideal hero? Is it the hat?

Ha! So they are nice for riding? That is something I can understand.
Must be the chaps, hats, or that they can tame horses …. not sure which.
