Special Guest Liia Ann White & Contest!!!

December 7, 2011

Huge thanks to Lovely Lisa for having me today 🙂 I love stopping by.

When naming my characters, I don’t usually have a reason behind choosing the ones I do. I’ll either pick a name out of thin air, or make one up (I’ve done that many times). But for the 1Night Stand series, I wanted to have a theme with their names. And how did I pick these names? Well… I have a confession to make.

I’m a geek. A big, massive, comic book reading, cartoon watching, glasses wearing, lightsaber owning geek! And I’m proud of it.

Growing up, my favourite cartoon and comic book series was X-Men. And it still is. I love everything about the franchise, and I thought to myself; what better way to show my love and appreciation for Stan Lee’s brilliant series than to name my 1NS characters after his? So I did.

I named the hero in One Hot Australian Night, my first 1NS story, Xavier, after Professor X and his brother Erik, after Magneto. But for the next I wanted to name them after characters I really loved.

Her First White Christmas holds a special place in my heart because it’s the first holiday story I’ve written and the first anthology I’ve been a part of. So when naming my hero and heroine, I wanted to choose some special names, so I named Remy after Remy LaBeau – or Gambit as he’s known – my all time favourite character.

This may be weird, but I always had a crush on Gambit. I still do. He has the careless attitude that makes most flawed heroes so appealing. He’s made something of himself despite being called ‘Le Diable Blanc’ (The White Devil) and, well, there’s a reason he’s also known as the Ragin’ Cajun.

Once I’d named my hero, the heroine’s name came instantly. Bella Donna was Gambit’s wife. A busty blonde woman who can definitely hold her own. See? I told you he had an interesting back-story.

So that’s how I named my characters for Her First White Christmas. If you had no idea what I was talking about throughout this post, clearly you’re not as geeky as I am.

Remy Sommers has grown weary of his playboy lifestyle. He’s ready to fall in love and settle down. Problem is, he doesn’t know where to start. After attending his sister’s wedding, he takes her advice and contacts the 1 Night Stand dating agency – the same agency she used to find her new husband.

Bella Donna has had enough of blind dates. She’s always left bitterly disappointed. On the advice of a friend, she contacts Madame Evangeline, hoping her reputation precedes her and she can find Bella Donna her perfect man.

A mysterious invitation from Madame Evangeline leads them both to the secluded and exclusive Castillo Lodge in Alaska for a holiday event.

Will they get their happily ever after? Or will their first white Christmas end in disaster and disappointment?
