When you hear the word ‘toys,’ most people think of Barbie dolls and Tonka trucks. But when you say the same word to readers and writers of spicy or erotic romance, their thoughts usually go in a different direction. Adult toys seem to be making a comeback lately, with more and more home-party companies advertising their services.
And they’re a lot of fun. I attended one not too long ago. It was women only, and a number of the ladies there were related to the presenter, so you can imagine the teasing she received. But she was very professional.
She started out talking about the edibles, producing jars of flavored spread-ons to pass around with tiny spoons so we could taste them. Then she brought out skin products, bath oils, and exfoliating gloves to make us feel as sexy on the outside as we do on the inside. I thought that was insightful.
Then she got to the interesting stuff, including dozens of battery operated boyfriends – or BOBs as she called them. Available in different colors and sizes. Some were huge and right in your face, so to speak, and others were tiny and able to travel with you. I can see it now, “BOB,” I say to my lipstick-size toy, “Get in my purse. We’re going to Vegas for the weekend.”
After showing and explaining her products, she disappeared into another room and we took turns meeting with her individually and selecting our favorites. One hundred and eighty dollars later, I walked out with a bag full of interesting stuff. Hubby was very excited when I walked in the door.
In the past, we’d stopped in our local adult gift store to pick up gag gifts for relatives and friends for their 40th or 50th birthdays. You know, the tiny dumbbell so the aging man can exercise his thang. Or the bottle filled with fake pills to bring back the fire down below. Or the lubricant for antique parts.
And while we were there, we’d take a look at all the wild stuff they sold, sometimes buying a little goodie for fun. But we hadn’t really been into toys much. So I’m excited to find ways to get at least one hundred and eighty dollars worth of fun out of my impulse purchase.
I want to thank Lisa for letting me guest blog today. My first book, Chase and Seduction was released May 27 from The Wild Rose Press’ Cowboy Kink line, and I’m including the blurb and an excerpt for you.
Country music superstar/actor Chase Tanner has yet to be denied anything–and he’s never wanted anything or anyone more than gorgeous screenplay writer Reno Linden. So when the film they are working on is finally finished, Chase decides to turn up the volume on seducing Reno.
Reno Linden lived a quiet, rural life until she was thrust into the Hollywood scene when her book was adapted to film. Chase Tanner is larger than life, sinfully sexy and hell-bent on getting her into bed. Skittish after a failed wedding engagement, Reno risks the plunge into Chase’s arms, and is surprised that her good girl self can keep up with bad boy Chase.
Though Chase returns to his cowboy roots often, and Reno cherishes the time spent with him on his ranch, the two find their careers pulling them in different directions. Will their attraction survive the glitz and stress of fame?
EXCERPT: Over 18 only please.
Chase laughed, then sobered. His fingers slid under her hair, caressing her neck softly as he said, “You are a beautiful woman.”
She’d often been called beautiful-but-healthy, which referred to those extra forty pounds that made the difference between being a model, and being just plain Reno Linden.
He ran his fingers up the back of her head. “Your hair is like satin. And I’ve never seen eyes that color. Amber.”
Trying to keep from grinning, she teased, “Reno.”
He laughed. “No, your eyes are amber.” Seconds slipped by before he tipped his head and brushed his lips over hers.
She closed her eyes and parted her lips to breathe in his essence.
With a groan, his arm came around her waist, and he pulled her closer. His tongue danced with hers, the unexpectedly sweet taste of tequila and tobacco making her hungry for more of him.
Chase ended the kiss then pressed his lips to her temple and began swaying them in a slow dance. Quietly, he sang, “You’re the one I’ve been looking for, You’re the light behind that hidden door, Can’t figure out where you’ve been all my life, but I don’t wanna be without you anymore.”
Something melted inside her as he sang the song he dedicated to her from the stage. This was where she belonged, in his arms, where she fit perfectly, a lost puzzle piece at last finding its place.
He said, “Look at me, Reno.”
To celebrate the release of Chase and Seduction, I’m giving away, to one lucky commenter, an e-copy of my novella Her Cowboy Stud. Just leave a comment today!

Claudia, I thought I’d be terribly embarrassed, but it was really fun. Gosh, what ever happened to Tupperware parties? Have they been replaced by adult toy parties???
Lovin’ the cover of your book Randi! Congrats on your first!!!
I’ve never heard of the term “BOB”, but I like it:) I kinda wish I knew someone who did adult toy home parties… they do sound like fun. Although maybe it’s good I don’t know of anyone since I would probably spend way too much money:)
Hi Yadira, I love the cover, too. It does a great job of representing the book.
You could always become an adult toy party salesperson. I think that would be a fun job. Thanks for dropping by!
