Moonlight and Merlot

May 25, 2010

The continuing saga of the lives, loves and heartbreaks of the residents of Dion Valley, CA.

As with all the best things in life, this is for adults only.

Lela sped through the winding roads of the grape-laden countryside, heading back to town. The wind whipped through her hair and she smiled as she drove, happy to be away from Zach and Phoebe and their nauseating cuteness, even happier to be on her way to see Nick.

Nick Castle.

Lela let out a small, satisfied sigh. Tall, dark, mysterious and devastatingly handsome, Nick was the closest thing to ‘bad boy’ the Valley had seen in a very long time. Not that he was that bad or anything, not really anyway, but he had that aura. That charismatic, street-smart, volatile, dangerous thing.

There was something else about Nick too. He had a secret. Lela had no idea what it was or even what it could be, but she knew he had one. There were of course ways she could find out, but she preferred not to take any of those routes at this point. Not that she wasn’t almost absolutely dying from the curiosity because she certainly was, it was just that she wanted him to tell her. To trust her. To maybe love her, even just a little.

“Stupid,” she said aloud, flipping her hair out of her eyes. She didn’t have time for all this sappiness. She had work to do. A spell to perform. And she needed Nick to do it. That he looked hot in a pair of jeans meant nothing. Nothing at all.

She pulled onto Main Street and then parked in the Diner’s lot. Nick was definitely inside. There was no mistaking that chopper, in all its chromed and menacing glory, as anybody else’s bike.

Lela took a deep breath and stepped out of her car. This was it. She wondered what it was going to take to get him to say yes.

[Until next Tuesday…]
